A study of the historical impact of mathematics on civilization, from ancient times to the present. Topics include significant events in the development of mathematics, prominent mathematicians, and the importance of their discoveries. Students need to choose only one of the three prerequisites listed below. Prerequisite: Students must take MATH 1089 or higher to take MATH 1130.
Upon completion, students will be able to:
- Apply mathematical principles and techniques to solve problems in areas such as ancient systems of numeration, set theory and number theory.
- Investigate and describe key mathematicians and their contributions to mathematics.
- Identify how various cultures contributed to mathematics.
